Marmaduke broke his leg on the track at Birmingham and came to us a couple of weeks ago, along with 7 other dogs for our adoption program. He overnighted with me before going to Memphis for surgery at Dr. Pearce's.

He was such a sweet boy, I wanted to write a bit about him since he won't be in the home of a Nashville foster 'til early summer. When Bonita Kimbrell and I brought him in the house, my cat, Buster, one of GPAN's official dog testers, was waiting on the breakfast bar for him. He hissed at Marmaduke from about 5 feet away and MMD almost knocked us down trying to get away from Buster. After that, he refused to walk through the kitchen out of fear of Buster. A little later, while he was resting in his crate, my other cat, Earl, stood in the doorway to glare at him. Poor MMD whimpered and turned around in his crate so he couldn't see Earl.

MMD road perfectly to Memphis. Just sacked out in the back of my car. Xrays showed his injuries were serious — multiple breaks to the calcaneus and central tarsal. Dr. Pearce did surgery and put in hardware to stabilize the injury. We're hopeful that he'll make a full recovery.
